Head Coach Demeco Ryans Chooses C.J. Stroud As Texans Starting QB
After practicing in the offseason, going through training camp, and playing three preseason games, C.J. Stroud has now become the main quarterback for the Houston Texans. Head Coach DeMeco Ryans officially chose C.J. Stroud, who was the Texans’ second overall draft pick, to be the starter after Sunday night’s 17-13 win in the last preseason game against New Orleans.
Ryans said after the game, “C.J. will be our Week 1 starter in Baltimore.” Before the official announcement on Sunday night, Coach Ryans had a personal discussion with Stroud regarding the newcomer’s role as the starter.

Stroud took charge of the team’s offense for two rounds, making a successful touchdown pass to WR Nico Collins. He left the game towards the end of the first quarter. Stroud’s performance was short but impressive, as he completed 2 out of 4 throws for 16 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions, earning a high passer rating of 100.0 in the game against the Saints.
